Federal Budget 2014OTTAWA – The federal Conservative Government has tabled the Budget. Jim Flaherty, the Minister of Finance rose in the House of Commons just after 4PM EST to deliver the budget speech.

The Minister stated that one of the goals of the budget is reducing red tape on selling Canadian Resources. The Energy East Pipeline proposal and other energy efforts will be supported.

Funding for National Parks was announced including money to improve access to Canada’s National Parks.

Funding for a DNA Missing Person’s Index are a part of the budget.. The Finance Minister says it is to provide some peace of mind for families of missing persons. The DNA database will be designed to help identify human remains and help to bring a degree of closure to the families of people who have disappeared.

The Budget includes several justice-related initiatives.  This includes new funding to deal with the growing problem of provincial court delays, and to address persistent concerns about missing and murdered Aboriginal women.

Expanding funding for Broadband Internet is included in the budget for Northern Canada was announced. During the budget speech by Minister Flaherty the Government website for the budget went down. Perhaps a result of massive traffic demand.
