WINNIPEG – Lakehead Sports – Lakehead Thunderwolves fifth year guard Ayse Kalkan scored a game high 27 points to lead the Lakehead University Thunderwolves to a 61-52 victory over the Manitoba Bisons at the BOB FM Shootout Sunday morning.

Kalkan finished the contest shooting 11-of-14 from the field. She also had 10 rebounds, three assists and four steals in 32 minutes of playing time. Kalkan was named a Tournament All-Star for her efforts. 

Jessica de Haan had a strong game for Lakehead finishing with 14 points and 5 rebounds, but left late in the 4th quarter with an upper body injury.

Stephanie Gill added 10 points for the Bisons. Robyn Eyer finished with nine. Samantha Pyke led Manitoba in rebounds with six.

Lakehead had control of the contest early on, leading 38-28 at halftime.

Coach Jon Kreiner, “We played with much better energy today and that’s encouraging considering it was a 10am game on day three. Ayse Kalkan was awesome, Jess de Haan was super an Katelyn Zen played very well off the bench.”

The Thunderwolves finish the tournament with a record of 1-2.
