Terrace Bay, Nipigon, and Sioux Lookout Seek New Residents

TERRACE BAY – The Northwestern Ontario Immigration Portal along with the Township of Terrace Bay, one of the thirty-two participating communities; attended the Newcomers Expo in Toronto on September 7 & 8.

Representatives from Firedog Communications and the Township of Terrace Bay made the trip to Toronto and marketed www.immigrationnorthwesternontario.ca showcasing  jobs available and businesses for sales throughout the region.

An estimated 400 people visited the booth with backgrounds as physicians, engineers, entrepreneurs and more.

World Wide Interest in Northwestern Ontario

Visitors spanned the globe from all over India, China, Italy and the Ukraine and are in the Ontario through school or other work opportunities and were looking for a new place to live.

The feedback received was very positive. The advantages of more affordable housing, shorter commutes to work, and easily accessible outdoors being some of the main selling points.

The Northwestern Ontario Immigration Portal is a new initiative is to promote regional community at selected trade fairs throughout Ontario to promote emigration to the region.

Nipigon, Sioux Lookout and Terrace Bay are some of the communities featured at the shows with on site representatives promoting working, living, playing and doing business in the region.

Terrace Bay has seen an increase in job opportunities with the growth at AV Terrace Bay Inc. and is a natural fit for immigration with the international recognition of the Aditya Birla Group

The success of the event will be determined by measuring the interest in jobs and businesses in the region as received through the immigration portal as well as community partners.  Many print materials and folders were distributed at the event and will hopefully lead to interest in the region.
