Investigation Into Assault in Constance Lake

nan NAPs Nishnawbe-Aski Police Unit NAPSCONSTANCE LAKE – During the early morning hours of Saturday, June 15, 2013, the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) responded to the report of an injured male located in a ditch in the community of Constance Lake First Nation. Emergency services attended the scene and transported the victim to the Hearst hospital. The victim was subsequently transported by air to the Sudbury Hospital, with life threatening injuries.

Assaulted Male Dies From Injuries

NAPS commenced an investigation, which resulted in the arrest of two males from Constance Lake First Nation. The males were charged with aggravated assault and are presently being held in custody awaiting bail. The names of the accused are being withheld pending formal charges being laid.

On Sunday, June 16, NAPS investigators were notified that the victim’s condition had deteriorated. At this time a request for OPP assistance was made. On Tuesday, June 18, the victim succumbed to his injuries. The victim has been identified as, 23 year old Myles Shaganash of Constance Lake First Nation. 

The investigation is continuing under the direction of Acting Detective Inspector Rob Hagerman of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch with the assistance of NAPS, and the James Bay Crime Unit.
