THUNDER BAY – The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey has opened in Thunder Bay and is playing at Silver City on Memorial Avenue. The film is the long-awaited release of the ‘earlier story’ of the J. R. R. Tolkien novel that is the lead-in for The Lord of the Rings.

The movie has been racking up the dollars at the box office and gaining solid comments from many viewers.

“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” was released on December 14, 2012, with the second film, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” releasing December 13, 2013, and the third film, “The Hobbit: There and Back Again,” slated for July 18, 2014.

An array of products inspired by the film will be available at retailers worldwide, with several products also available at HobbitShop.com.

With the release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, WBCP is excited to unveil its vast licensing and merchandise program supporting this highly anticipated film. Co-master toy licensees The Bridge Direct and Vivid Group bring an assortment of highly detailed action figures, collector’s figures, and role-play toys in support of the film. Also lighting up the toy aisles is LEGO with a LEGO Games build-and-change construction game, as well as an array of construction sets inspired by key moments from the film; and global partner Rubie’s Costume Co. with a detailed line of costumes and accessories based on the film’s legendary characters.

Additional key licensees include collector-favourites such as Weta Workshop, with richly detailed prop replicas from the same studio responsible for props in the film; The Noble Collection with high-quality collectibles; and United Cutlery with collector weaponry replicas. From the smallest beginnings come the greatest legends.

Plot: A curious Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, journeys to the Lonely Mountain with a vigorous group of Dwarves to reclaim a treasure stolen from them by the dragon Smaug.
Story: Bilbo Baggins is swept into a quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever … Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, but he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities …
