Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation starts job action

THUNDER BAY – Early this morning the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) have stated that job action is starting against the province.

After postponing sanctions for five days, Ken Coran, President of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation announced early this morning that discussions with the Provincial Government have ended without an agreement.

The Federation states, “OSSTF/FEESO made the offer to continue talks in an effort to reach an acceptable agreement. OSSTF/FEESO is open to further discussions at both the provincial and local levels; however, at this time, no further talks are scheduled”.

As a result, OSSTF/FEESO members in the following school boards will commence strike action as of November 12, 2012:

– Lakehead District School Board (Early Childhood Educators, Educational Assistants, Teachers and Occasional Teachers)
– Superior Greenstone District School Board (Educational Support Staff, Teachers and Occasional Teachers)

– Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board (Educational Assistants and Professional Student Services Personnel)

As of 07:00AMEST there is no new information from the Lakehead Public Schools as to a course of action for the day.
