Political Parties get their quarterly allowance from Elections Canada

THUNDER BAY – Elections Canada has announced that the third quarter payments to registered political parties has been made. These allowances are based on the results of the 41st general election of May 2, 2011.

– Registered political parties that meet voting thresholds in a general election are eligible to receive quarterly allowances.
– The current annual allowance is $1.53 per valid vote. This annual allowance is paid in quarterly instalments.
– Pursuant to the Canada Elections Act, the quarterly allowances are being reduced over a three-year period.

The Bloc Québécois received $340,970, the Conservative Party of Canada received $2,231,991, the Green Party of Canada received $218,826, the Liberal Party of Canada received $1,064,527, and the New Democratic Party received $1,725,997.
