Lakehead Region Conservation Authority is continuing the Flood Watch for the Lakehead Region

NNL-FloodandRecoveryTHUNDER BAY – June 19 2012 10:30EDT – The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority is continuing the Flood Watch for the Lakehead Region including: City of Thunder Bay, Municipalities of Neebing, Oliver Paipoonge, Shuniah and the Townships of O’Connor, Conmee, Gilles and Dorion.

The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority advises that rainfall will likely begin in the afternoon and continue overnight with amounts totalling between 15 to 20 millimetres. An additional 15 to 20 millimetres is possible in severe thunderstorms or could be higher in isolated areas. Areas west of the City of Thunder Bay may see higher rainfall amounts.

Localized ponding and flooding in low lying areas may occur. The public is advised to continue to monitor weather forecasts over the next few days.

A Flood Watch is issued when the assessed conditions indicate that the potential for flooding
exists.

Authority Staff will continue to monitor conditions as part of its flood forecasting and warning program.

The Flood Watch will be updated by noon on Wednesday June 20, 2012 or sooner if conditions warrant.
