NAN prepares for 2012 Election for Executive Council

NANTHUNDER BAY – ABORIGINAL NOW – Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Head Electoral Officer Larry Amos announced official notice of the 2012 election for the Executive Council of NAN. Chiefs and proxies from NAN’s 49 First Nation communities will vote for members of the Executive Council (Grand Chief and three Deputy Grand Chiefs) Wednesday, August 15, 2012 during the XXXI Keewaywin Conference being held this year in Kashechewan First Nation.

This year marks the 35th Anniversary of the Declaration of NAN with special events planned for the occasion. Information of the election process, election codes and sample nominations can be found on the NAN website along with information on the Keewaywin Conference.

The elections will be streamed live and available to view on the NAN election website at nanelection.ca
The Head Electoral Officer Larry Amos will accept candidate nominations until Monday, July 16, 2012 at 11:59 pm (EST). The official campaign period will run from Tuesday July 17, 2012 to Wednesday August 15, 2012.
