345

THUNDER BAY – Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) and Ontario Power Generation (OPG) are advising residents of the Silver Falls Road area and Dog Lake that water levels in the Upper Kaministiquia River and Dog Lake will remain high over the week and are not expected to rise.

OPG will be maintaining the current flow level out of Dog Lake for the next several days. If there is no significant rainfall in the area, water levels in the Upper Kaministiquia River are expected to start going down towards the end of the week. Levels on Dog Lake have stabilized and are expected to begin to gradually decline.

The following road closures are in effect in the area:
▪ Silver Falls Road between Ellis Road and Shields Road
▪ Forbes River Road between Jaaska Road and Pit Road
▪ Portage Creek Road

OPG’s dams and stations on the Kaministiquia River Watershed remain in a safe condition. Water flows and levels can become dangerous very quickly and without notice, particularly during periods of significant rainfall. People should stay clear of waterways during this period.

The agencies will continue to work together to monitor the situation. Updates will be issued as warranted.
Affected residents can contact the Ministry of Natural Resources at 807-630-4913 for additional information.
Members of the public are reminded to call 911 or 807-473-5200 in the case of an emergency. For information on updated road conditions, call 511.
