Winter Storm Warning in effect for Region

Weather AlertTHUNDER BAY – The region surrounding Thunder Bay is under a Winter Storm Warning. Environment Canada reports, “A low pressure system over Nebraska this morning will track northeastward to lie over Northeastern Ontario Monday. Meanwhile, a strong cold front is expected to approach from the north. In a band from Lake Nipigon to Fraserdale, snow will develop late today and continue into Monday with total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm expected. The snow will be mixed with ice pellets or freezing rain in some locales”.

“Further south, in a band from Northern Lake Superior through to the Kapuskasing area, freezing rain at times mixed ice pellets is forecast to develop tonight with significant icing expected by Monday morning. This band will shift southward through the day on Monday to reach Chapleau and Timmins where rain will change to a mix of freezing rain and ice pellets”.
