RCMPEDMONTON – Crimebeat – Update – Two RCMP Officers shot and wounded on-duty near Killam, AB

Edmonton, AB – At approximately 2 p.m. today, two members from the Killam RCMP Detachment were shot and wounded while executing a search warrant at a rural residence near Hardisty, Alberta. The injured members, who have endured significant injuries, were struck by gunfire and were subsequently airlifted to hospital in Edmonton.

Given the challenges experienced to date, both members are the subject of ongoing care in hospital. The names of the attending members are not being released until their respective families have been notified. Efforts to notify the affected families are underway.

RCMP personnel have contained the residence in question while efforts continue to ascertain whether or not persons of interest remain within the dwelling. Numerous resources have been deployed including the “K” Division Emergency Response Team, Air Services, Major Crimes, members from adjacent detachments and a Tactical Armored Vehicle (TAV) supplied by the Edmonton Police Service.

This incident has been referred to the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), an independent agency mandated to investigate all incidents that involve serious injury or death that may have resulted from the actions of the police. “K” Division Major Crimes will be maintaining carriage of the criminal investigation which has been initiated as a result of this event.
