Collisions Close Highway 11/17 at Kakabeka Falls and at Rossport – Update 3 2:15PM

breaking newsTHUNDER BAY – 1700PM Updated – Snow and blowing snow are going to impact road conditions in the region today. Reports are in that a motor vehicle accident on Highway 11/17 near Kakabeka Falls has resulted in the highway being closed earlier today (Sunday) – That roadway is now re-opened for traffic.

The accident involved a passenger vehicle and a transport truck. A seventeen year old Thunder Bay resident has been reported killed in the accident. OPP have not released the name of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.

In addition there has been a collision between two transport trucks on the highway near Rossport. The highway is now open in one direction. Police and crews are still dealing with the accident.

Road conditions in Thunder Bay… major arteries are being cleared. Side streets and sidewalks are mostly snow covered. Roads are slippery. If you do not absolutely have to drive today consider staying home.

Road conditions are going to impact travel throughout the region. So far, The Thunder Bay Airport is reporting most flights are departing on time. That however could change depending on weather conditions.
