OPP Busy with Drug Busts in Marathon and Manitowadge

Ontario Provincial PoliceMARATHON, ON – Crimebeat – On Wednesday November 2, 2011 at approximately 4:25PM an officer from the Marathon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 17 east of Marathon in the District of Thunder Bay. During the traffic stop a quantity of cannabis marihuana and prescription pills were discovered in the vehicle. The drugs have an estimated value of over $34,000.00.

The driver, Joshua Calladine, a 38 year-old-male, from Quinte West ON, faces charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Marathon on December 15, 2011 at 9:00AM.

In addition, on Monday October 31, 2011 at 8:40 pm, members of the Manitouwadge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment executed a search warrant on a residence in Manitouwadge. As a result of the search a quantity of Marijuana, Cannabis resin, and drug paraphernalia were seized. Other growing materials were also seized. Total street value approximately $3160.00. As a result of the warrant one male was arrested and charged. Robert Scott Withers, aged 47 from Manitouwadge was charged with Possession for the purpose of Trafficking and Production of Marihuana and is to appear in court in Manitouwadge on December 14, 2011.
