Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Upsala, Raith, Atikokan….


weather alertTHUNDER BAY – At 6:51 EST Environment Canada has continued a severe Thunder Storm Watch for Upsala, Raith, Atikokan, Shebandowan, and Quetico Park. The weather service advises that persons in or near this area should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions.

Watch for updated statements.

Environment Canada advises that the forecast is for scattered thunderstorms over Northwestern Ontario this evening. Some of these thunderstorms may be severe with large hail and strong wind gusts being the main threats.

An earlier Tornado Watch for Sioux Lookout has ended. At 5:40 PM EDT weather observations at the Sioux Lookout airport indicate a tornado to the northwest of the airport. Weather radar also indicates several other thunderstorms exhibiting rotation in the to the northeast of Kenora and also just east of Grassy Narrows. The motion of the thunderstorms is to the northeast at about 70 km/h.
