NIPIGON – The Nipigon Elks played the Thunder Bay Junior Stars at the Nipigon Community Centre. The Nipigon Elks have been playing entertaining hockey this year.

The Elks didn’t waste any time to start the scoring. With only 2:45 gone Lucas Restoule put the home town Elks up 1-0. Mitch Kerr scored his first of two straight to put the Elks up 2-0. Joe Szura scored to put the visiting Stars on the board. Nipigon got that goal back when Hurkett’s Zach Nuttal scored to put Nipigon up 5-1 after one period of play.

There was only one goal scored in the second period and it came from the Elks Brett Almgren. Nipigon had the game completely under control. After two periods the home town Elks looked impressive. The crowd was cheering as the Elks were leaving the ice for the second intermission. The Elks were up 6-1.

Whatever Scott and Dave Simpson said in the Stars dressing room during the intermission must have worked.

Former Elk Desi Legallias scored to make the score 6-2 at the 16 second mark. In just 27 seconds later the Stars Sean Moulton cut the Elks lead in half at 6-3. Matthew Mickleburgh scored for the Elks to make the score 7-3 and that would be the final score of the game.

The Elks next home game is Friday February 4th at 7:30pm. The Elks will be playing against the Thunder Bay Screaming Eagles. The last time the Eagles came to Nipigon they defeated Nipigon 8-6. So this game on the fourth could go either way.

See you all there.
