Old Ways Falling Away as Internet Improves

312

Changes ComingTHUNDER BAY – Improvements keep coming to the Internet, and to how we surf the ‘Net. In the case of NetNewsledger.com, over the past five years, this site has undergone numerous changes.

When the site first went up, it was a very basic site with cascading style sheets (css) to set the pages up. The articles were posted after being written in hyper text machine language (html).

That old-fashioned way of doing a website has changed with the evolution of new and more advanced website designs. Looking at better ways to do the site, the next steps forward were into open-source software options.

The beauties to those choices are that there are countless options for templates, designs, and modules or widgets. With open-source software, there are literally thousands of designers, and helpers if there is a problem.

NetNewsledger.com migrated to Joomla, which is a content management system (cms). That early site grew for some time, and finally the traffic and content on the site led to our web host requesting or rather demanding a new system.

The current NetNewsledger.com is a WordPress site. WordPress  is an open-source software. That means world-wide there are thousands upon thousands of developers working on the system. Collectively they are making the widgets, plug-ins and other add-ons that make WordPress sites more interesting.

The new look to NetNewsledger.com is a new theme created by Gabfirethemes.com an eastern European company. The company states, on their website, “We are professional, responsive, and most importantly – honest. In many instances, we have saved our clients hundreds of dollars by offering alternative approaches, smart hacks, and/or work-arounds to common issues”. Since adding the new theme, two questions on how to make changes on the theme have been answered quickly and professionally and in under an hour.

Readership on NetNewsledger.com has continued to grow. According to the latest figures, a growing number of readers seem to be spending up to 40 minutes per day on NNL, reading up to 19 pages through the day.

We envision that as Thunder Bay changes, so too will NetNewsledger.com. Our approach since the beginning has been that all of the changes, innovations and improvements to the site have happened live, and right in front of you.

All of the changes on NNL are a result of the growing readership, and your support.

Thank you.

Over the coming weeks and months, there is one certainty, there will be more change. We are moving toward increased video on the site, and using some of the newest Internet technology to bring you more ideas, positive visions, and enhanced coverage.
