Family Fishing Day Shaping Up for Fun

THUNDER BAY – Even though Canada Day is probably atop your summer things-to-do list today, the Lakehead Regional Conservation Authority says, “ Family Fishing Day is shaping up to be a great event at Hazelwood Lake Nature Centre!”

This year’s event takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 11 th and will feature more than just fishing! In addition to the opportunity for Canadian Residents to discover fishing without needing a license, the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) have lined up workshops, door prizes and a concession.

Outdoor writer Gord Ellis will make an “Angling Made Easy” presentation inside the Centre at

11 :00 a.m. At 12:00 p.m. the MNR will host a presentation on “Invasive Species” followed by a presentation on “Personal Survival Kits” by the Lakehead Search and Rescue Unit at 1:00 p.m. Pre-registration is required due to limited seating.

The first 100 kids in attendance will receive free fishing rod kits courtesy of Canadian National Sportsmen’s Shows. There will also be door prize draws anyone can enter.

“Family Fishing Day at Hazelwood Lake Nature Centre is a great way for you, a friend or family member to try fishing for the first time or for the first time in a long time,” says LRCA Chairman Bill Bartley.

“This is a fun, family event that is close to home and very affordable,” says LRCA Chairman, pointing out the $2/vehicle admission charge.

Hazelwood Lake Nature Centre is located 14-km north of Dawson Road on Hazelwood Drive.
