Rickford Announces Funding for Internships

KENORA – Greg Rickford, Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines, announced an investment of more than $196,000 for seven internship positions.

They include:

  • $31,500 for the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundationto hire a communications co-ordinator intern to help increase the organization’s community presence, visibility and profile as well as its donor and volunteer
  • $31,500 for the Lake of the Woods Development Commission to hire aneconomic development intern to help implement Kenora’s key economic development priorities, such as the city’s Vision 20/20 Strategic
  • $31,500 for the Town of Fort Frances to hire an information technology (IT) co- ordinator intern to help manage key projects, such as the deployment of fibre-optic cable to town
  • $27,846 for the Alzheimer Society of Kenora and Rainy River Districts to hire a volunteer and events co-ordinator intern to help with community outreach andevent campaigns, and co-ordination of
  • $26,000 for FSET Inc. in Kenora to hire an IT intern to help with the automationof client-focused computer operating
  • $24,960 for LBE Group Inc. in Kenora to hire an engineering intern to helpwith design, drafting and other engineering
  • $22,800 for Graham & Graham Consulting in Kenora to hire a social program support worker intern to help with the development and implementation of social and mental wellness programs and projects in First Nation

“We are giving young northerners the opportunity to gain practical experience and develop their skills in a real work environment before entering the job market,” said Minister Rickford. “Creating internships in the Kenora-Rainy River region helps retain young people in the area, strengthens the north’s competitive advantage and sends a strong signal that Northern Ontario is open for business and open for jobs.”
