Thunder Bay – Search continues for missing swimmer

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) report they are currently investigating a missing swimmer on the Kaministiquia River off of Hume Road East in Conmee Township.

On Thursday, July 5, 2018, at approximately 8:55 pm OPP were notified that a 21-year-old male from Thunder Bay was missing on the Kaministiquia River. Police were advised that the male had been swimming with friends when he went underwater but did not resurface. Officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the OPP, the Thunder Bay Fire Department, and the Conmee Fire Department attended the scene.

The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU), the OPP Marine Unit and members of the North West Region Emergency Response Unit (ERT), with the assistance of a helicopter, are currently assisting with the search.

The investigation is continuing and further information will be released as it becomes available.
