Weather UpdateKENORA – Weather UPDATED 06:00AM EDT – Alert is over – Environment Canada has issued a weather alert for the western region of Northwestern Ontario.

  • Kenora – Grassy Narrows – Whitedog
  • Pickle Lake – Cat Lake – Summer Beaver – Wunnummin Lake – Kingfisher Lake
  • Pikangikum – Poplar Hill – MacDowell
  • Sandy Lake – Weagamow Lake – Deer Lake

The weather service is calling for thunderstorms with heavy downpours tonight.

A cold front approaching from Manitoba has a few showers and thunderstorms associated with it. Some of the thunderstorms may become quite strong tonight with very heavy downpours giving 20 to 30 mm of rain in an hour or less. In addition some of the thunderstorms may contain frequent lightning and wind gusts to 70 km/h.

The cold front will sweep out the showers and thunderstorms by Monday morning.

Environment Canada is closely monitoring this situation. If thunderstorms become more intense than currently expected, a watch or warning may be required.

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warnings may be required or extended
