Patient care is improving at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, thanks to the recent addition of Polymerase Chain Reaction equipment in the clinical laboratory, which was generously funded thanks to donors. Thanks to this new equipment, testing for antibiotic resistant infections like MRSA or VRE can now be done in as little as an hour, as opposed to 2-5 days, which is significant as patients can be treated sooner and removed from isolation when appropriate.

The Lions Vision Care Centre at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre is in need of a Retinal Imaging Camera; a specialized piece of equipment that allows ophthalmologists to properly see and monitor damage to retinas, caused by a variety of medical conditions, including diabetes. Local Lions Clubs announced donations totaling $20,500 toward the camera. They are asking others to join them in making a gift.
