
Traffic Unit flags suspected suspended driver
THUNDER BAY — January 5, 2026 — TB26000337 – Thunder Bay Police say a tow truck was pulled over Saturday afternoon after a Traffic Unit officer observed a vehicle believed to be operated by a suspended driver and in violation of provincial towing and highway regulations.
Police report the stop occurred January 3, 2026. Following the investigation, the tow truck was impounded for seven days.
Multiple offences laid under towing and highway laws
A 44-year-old Thunder Bay man is facing the following charges:

Driving while under suspension

Failing to apply for a permit on becoming owner

Operate commercial motor vehicle no valid CVOR

Tow operator – fail to ensure name and certificate number displayed

Tow operator – fail to ensure tow operator certificate is in truck
The accused is scheduled to appear in court in March 2026.
Police stress enforcement and consumer awareness
The Thunder Bay Police Service Traffic Unit says it will continue enforcement aimed at public safety and accountability in the towing industry, reminding businesses and drivers of their responsibilities under the Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, and Highway Traffic Act.
