Kenora in Winter

Snow’s on the way, but it’s the wind chill that’s really stealing the show — bundle up, Lake of the Woods!

Kenora, Grassy Narrows, Whitedog & Lake of the Woods Weather – Monday, December 8, 2025

A Chilly Start with Light Snow Incoming

THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – Winter is running on full power in the Kenora region, with temperatures sitting at -18.2°C as of 5:00 AM CST, and wind chills dropping it to a brisk -27°C.

Skies are mostly cloudy, and while it looks calm from the window, it feels like walking through a deep freeze thanks to southeast winds at 16 km/h.

Humidity is at 84%, with a dew point of -20.2°C, meaning there’s moisture hanging in the air — just enough to support light snow developing later today. Visibility is excellent at 32 km, and while barometric pressure is currently at 102.6 kPa, it’s falling, indicating changing weather on the horizon.

Today’s forecast includes a 30% chance of flurries through the morning, becoming light snow late this afternoon. The high will reach -12°C, but wind chills will sit at -26°C this morning and only warm to around -18°C by the afternoon. That means frostbite risk is real, especially with longer outdoor exposure.

Tonight: Light Snow Tapers, Cold Air Deepens

Tonight brings light snow ending late this evening, followed by cloudy skies and a 30% chance of lingering flurries. Expect 2 to 4 cm of fresh snow on the ground by morning — enough to give driveways a fresh white coat and roads a slick layer.

Winds remain light, up to 15 km/h, and the low will drop to -16°C, with wind chills near -22°C overnight. You’ll want that block heater plugged in and your snow brush ready for the morning commute.

Tuesday and Beyond: More Flurries Before Sunshine Returns

Tuesday stays cloudy with a 60% chance of flurries, and a slightly milder high of -10°C. East winds of 20 km/h will arrive later in the day, but even then, wind chills will dip to -22°C in the morning and hover around -15°C in the afternoon.

Tuesday night clears out sharply, with temperatures tumbling to -21°C under starry skies. But starting Wednesday, we’re in for a treat: a stretch of sunny (yet cold) days. Wednesday and Thursday will be sunny with highs around -15°C to -16°C, and overnight lows in the -20°C to -24°C range. It’s classic Northwestern Ontario winter — cold, crisp, and bright.

What to Wear

Today calls for serious winter armour:

  • Insulated parka and snow pants

  • Thermal underlayers

  • Wool socks and insulated boots

  • Hat, mitts, scarf, and face covering

  • Snow goggles optional — but a great look!

Whether you’re walking the dog, going to school, or just stepping out to shovel, wind chill protection is essential.

❄️ Weather Trivia Time!

Lake of the Woods is famous not only for its stunning summers but also for its epic winters. With over 14,000 islands, the lake can freeze solid enough for ice roads, which are sometimes used to reach otherwise isolated areas — one of the few places in Canada where you can legally drive on water!
