Cloudy Skies, Mild Temperatures, and a Splash of Showers in the Forecast

KENORA – WEATHER – The Lake of the Woods region is waking up to a calm, mostly cloudy morning with that unmistakable September softness in the air. While it’s not the sunniest stretch we’ve seen this month, the forecast is holding steady with mild temperatures, a touch of humidity, and just enough shower potential to keep you checking the sky.

Today: Warm Despite the Cloud Blanket

As of 6:00 AM CDT, Kenora Airport is reporting mostly cloudy skies with a current temperature of 11.3°C. With a dew point of 10.3°C and a humidity level of 94%, it’s a damp and cool start—but don’t let that fool you. The day is expected to warm up nicely.

Winds are blowing gently from the east-northeast at 13 km/h, and will pick up to 20 km/h from the northeast later this morning. Visibility is excellent at 32 km, and the barometric pressure is at 102.3 kPa and rising, pointing to a brief period of stable conditions before the next round of cloud-thickening and possible precipitation.

The daytime high will reach 22°C, and with the humidex pushing it to feel more like 26°C, it’ll be pleasantly warm under those clouds. The UV index is 5, or moderate, so if the sun breaks through, be prepared with a little sunscreen.

Tonight: More Clouds, but Still Comfortable

Tonight, skies will stay cloudy, with the temperature dipping to a mild low of 12°C. It’s a good night for sleeping with the window cracked open—no frost risks, no dramatic winds, just a quiet, moody evening in northwestern Ontario.

The Weekend Outlook: Shower Chances, but No Soakers

Friday, September 19, keeps the cloud theme going, with a 40 percent chance of showers in the afternoon. The high will be 19°C, comfortable for outdoor activities—just maybe pack a light rain jacket or umbrella. Friday night will be cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers, and the overnight low will be 11°C.

Saturday, September 20, brings more cloud cover and a 30 percent chance of rain through both the day and night. The high remains stable at 19°C, and the overnight low climbs slightly to 13°C—still mild for this time of year.

Sunday, September 21, looks similar, with cloudy skies and a continued 30 percent chance of showers, and a slightly warmer high of 21°C. Sunday night stays cloudy with a low of 13°C.

So, while it’s not a picture-perfect fall weekend, it won’t be a washout either—more of a grey, sweater-weather stretch with occasional interruptions from Mother Nature.

What to Wear?

Layer up—mornings are cool, afternoons are warm, and clouds are keeping things damp. Light waterproof outerwear will be your best friend from Friday through Sunday, and you’ll still want breathable clothing underneath to handle the lingering warmth.

Weather Trivia: Why So Cloudy?

Kenora and the Lake of the Woods region are especially prone to persistent cloud cover in early fall. As warm, moist air from the lakes interacts with cooler inland air masses, the result is often stratus clouds that linger, especially when wind speeds are low—exactly the kind of pattern we’re seeing this weekend.
