AFS Reports New Blazes Near Temagami and Anima Nipissing Lake; Fire Risk Still Present in Select Areas
NORTHEAST ONTARIO – August 30, 2025 (7:15 p.m. EDT): Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFFES) is reporting two new wildland fires in Ontario’s Northeast Fire Region, bringing the total number of active fires to six.
New Fire Details

North Bay 16: Spanning 0.1 hectares, this fire is located west of Red Squirrel Road near the eastern shore of Red Squirrel Lake — roughly 12 kilometres northwest of Temagami.

North Bay 17: Estimated at 3 hectares, this fire is situated on an island in Breeches Bay on Anima Nipissing Lake, about 10 kilometres southwest of Latchford.
Currently, four other fires are active in the region. One is under control, while three are being monitored in remote areas of the Far North.
Fire Hazard Levels
Most of the Northeast region is experiencing low to moderate fire hazard conditions, but a high hazard alert remains in place for areas between Latchford, Cobalt, and New Liskeard.

Burning Rules and Reminders
AFFES reminds the public to be extremely careful when performing any outdoor burning:

Fires should only be lit two hours before sunset and fully extinguished two hours after sunrise.

Always keep water and tools nearby to control the fire.

Alternatives such as composting or landfill disposal are recommended for yard waste and woody debris.
