THUNDER BAY – NEWS — A significant quantity of suspected cocaine and over $5,000 in cash were seized following a drug trafficking investigation by Thunder Bay Police Service, resulting in the arrest of a local man.

On Thursday, August 21, members of the Thunder Bay Police Intelligence Unit, supported by the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of John Street. The warrant followed an investigation into suspected drug trafficking in the area.

During the operation, officers located and arrested a male suspect within the residence. A subsequent search uncovered suspected cocaine with an estimated street value exceeding $150,000, cash believed to be proceeds of crime, and various items associated with drug trafficking activity.

Arrest and Charges

James MCDONALD, 55, has been charged with:

  • Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

MCDONALD appeared in court on Friday and has been remanded into custody pending a future court appearance.

Community Impact and Police Strategy

This seizure underscores ongoing concerns about the presence of illicit drugs in Thunder Bay and the proactive measures local law enforcement are taking to dismantle trafficking operations.

Police encourage members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activity, which can aid in curbing the circulation of dangerous substances in neighbourhoods across the city.
