Northwest Region Sees 28 Active Wildfires; Hazard Levels Vary Across Thunder Bay, Dryden, and Far North

Wildfire Update

THUNDER BAY – WILDFIRE REPORTS — Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services report that as of 5:02 p.m. CDT on August 25, 2025, no new wildfires were confirmed in the Northwest Fire Region.

Currently, there are 28 active wildfires across the region:

  • 2 fires are not under control

  • 3 fires are under control

  • 23 fires are being observed

Fire Hazard Conditions

The wildland fire hazard remains moderate to low across most of the southern half of the Northwest Region, with some isolated high-hazard pockets reported in the Thunder Bay and Dryden fire management areas.

In contrast, the far north continues to see predominantly low hazard levels.

No Drone Zone

Officials are reminding the public that flying drones near wildfires is both dangerous and illegal.

Drones put the lives of pilots, firefighters, and other emergency personnel at risk by interfering with air operations. Members of the public are urged to keep drones away from active fire zones to ensure safety.

Reporting Wildfires

  • To report a wildland fire north of the French and Mattawa rivers, call 310-FIRE (3473).

  • To report a fire south of those rivers, call 9-1-1 immediately.
