Kenora Recreation and Culture Says NO to a Junior A Hockey Team

2019
Welcome to Kenora

KENORA – The Recreation and Culture department of the City of Kenora has received a request for ice time to support a Junior A team in Kenora. After careful review, it has been determined that the junior team calendar will not be included in the 2023/2024 ice season schedule.

In a statement to media, the Recreation and Culture Department says, “It is important to note that this decision is an administrative one, which was based on a comprehensive assessment of various factors beyond just ice allocation. In particular, through public consultation, community groups and users have raised concerns. In order to address these concerns and ensure that everyone’s views are considered, the City has decided to take the necessary time to thoroughly evaluate the potential addition of a Junior A team in the future.”

The Recreation and Culture department of the City of Kenora collaborates with individuals and groups to expand programming opportunities in the community. When evaluating new programs, we take into account facility availability, and ensure that the program aligns with our values by providing adequate and appropriate recreational opportunities for all community members.
