Dryden: 14-Year-Old Youth Faces Charges in Death of Wabigoon Lake Man

DRYDEN – NEWS –  A 14-year-old from Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation faces charges following the death of 56-year-old Gregory GEORGE laid by the Ontario Provincial Police.

56-year-old Gregory GEORGE died in hospital after being seriously injured during a break and enter with violence at a residence in the Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation on May 13, 2022.

A 14-year-old from Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation was arrested May 27, 2022 and has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

·      Break and Enter contrary to sec. 348(1)(b)

·      Aggravated Assault contrary to sec. 268

The accused was released from custody following a bail hearing and is on a number of conditions.

The young person is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Dryden on July 12, 2022.

Due to their age, the name of the accused cannot be released.

Members of the North West Region OPP and Treaty Three Police Service are continuing to investigate, under direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario. There is no concern for public safety at this time.
