Thunder Bay Police Announce Arrest in Child Pornography Investigation

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – The Thunder Bay Police Service has made an arrest linked to an ongoing child pornography investigation.

Detectives with the Cyber Crimes Unit were examining evidence linked to a case involving Ashley Dawn RAYMER, 24, of Thunder Bay. RAYMER was arrested by police in November of 2018 and charged with several offences related to child pornography.

Through their investigation, detectives were able to identify a local man who had received images of child pornography from RAYMER through a social media messaging service.

Investigators also located conversations between the two accused through chat logs.

John Joseph O’BRIEN, 64, of Thunder Bay, has been charged with Accessing Child Pornography.

He appeared in court today and was released with a future court date.

The Thunder Bay Police Cyber Crime Unit began an investigation in October 2018 after receiving information from the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre that a Thunder Bay female was uploading Child Pornography images and videos to Tumblr.

The investigation resulted in a search warrant being executed at a residence in the 1900 block of Frederica Street West on November 1, 2018.

Officers seized several devices and arrested the female without incident. The images of the victim are of a female under 10 years of age that is known to the accused.

She has been charged with Make Child Pornography, Make Available Child Pornography, Sexual Assault and Sexual Interference. After a brief examination of one of the devices seized from the residence, an additional charge of Possession of Child Pornography was also laid on the female.

Due to the nature and severity of the investigation, being a female offender which is rarely seen, the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre attended Thunder Bay on November 1, 2018 and conducted an interview with the female offender.

Ashley Dawn Raymer, 23-years-old of Thunder Bay appeared in court this morning and was remanded into custody.
