Passport to ProsperityTHUNDER BAY – Passport to Prosperity, in partnership with the North Superior Workforce Planning Board, hosted Mission Employability VI: Mining at the Victoria Inn on March 8th, 2012. This business/education forum was organized with the goal of exploring career opportunities in the Mining Sector with industry representatives, educators, students and parents.

The Forum featured panel presenters: Barbara Green Parker of Mining Matters, Barb Courte of Northstar Drilling, Suzanne Halet from Magma Metals, representation from Confederation College, as well as personal experiences related by Jaysen Indian from Orbit Garant Drilling.

A key objective of the Forum was to identify the importance of the Mining sector, what essential skills are required for careers in the sector and what innovative things can be done so that students, parents and teachers are more aware of the incredible opportunities within this sector.

North Superior Workforce Planning Board Executive Director Madge Richardson said that the Mission Employability series was developed in response to an important trend that was identified by community stakeholders during the Board’s labour market planning consultation sessions.
