Is Remembrance Day important? Every year growing numbers of people are participating in Remembrance Day activities. Every year there are fewer and fewer veterans from past wars alive to attend.
In Thunder Bay, there are three services you can attend. There are a parade and service at Waverly Park on the north side of the city, Fort William Gardens plays host to Remembrance Day Services, at and Mount McKay on the Fort William First Nation there is a service.
This is the 100 year mark for the start of World War One, and it has been seventy-four years since the start of World War Two. The numbers of veterans who served in those two conflicts are slowly dwindling.
There are no veterans from the First World War who are still alive.
The Last Words in the poem “In Flanders Fields” says to never forget.
Lest We Forget!
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
