September 3, 2025 — Verdun Windows and Doors has officially broken ground on a 104,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Vars Industrial Park, a landmark investment that strengthens Eastern Ontario’s role as a hub for sustainable building products. The new campus represents a multi-million-dollar commitment to job creation, advanced production, and Made-in-Ottawa innovation.
The Vars facility will anchor Verdun’s growth strategy for decades to come, giving the company the capacity to expand production of its award-winning RevoCell™ windows while opening new opportunities in doors, glazing systems, and energy-efficient building solutions. With construction now underway, Verdun is positioning itself as a leading force in Canadian home manufacturing—combining scale, technology, and environmental responsibility.
A $40 Million Regional Investment
Verdun’s Vars project reflects more than just square footage. The $40 million campus investment places Eastern Ontario at the center of Verdun’s national supply chain, reinforcing local production over imports and distant sourcing. This strategy not only ensures greater reliability for customers but also reduces transportation emissions, aligning with Verdun’s sustainability goals.
“This is more than a factory—it’s a statement about where we believe Canadian home manufacturing is heading,” said Verdun’s leadership. “The Vars facility allows us to double down on innovation, resilience, and local roots while serving more homeowners with products designed to outperform.”
The facility is scheduled to be completed in late 2025, with the first production runs of RevoCell™ slated for early 2026.
RevoCell™ at the Core
At the heart of Verdun’s expansion is its proprietary RevoCell™ technology, which has earned consecutive ENERGY STAR® Canada Special Recognition Awards in 2023 and 2024. Built with a unique microcellular PVC (mPVC) structure containing billions of microscopic air pockets, RevoCell™ windows deliver outstanding energy efficiency and structural strength, often meeting ENERGY STAR® “Most Efficient” standards with only dual-pane glass.
The new Vars plant will increase production capacity by up to 50 percent, making it easier for Canadian homeowners to access one of the most energy-efficient windows in the market. The facility’s expanded output also supports Verdun’s long-term vision of advancing sustainability in construction by replacing outdated, underperforming windows with modern, high-efficiency models.
Cutting-Edge Industrial Design
Verdun’s Vars facility is designed with technology at its core. Advanced CNC machining, automated profile fabrication, robotics, and real-time quality monitoring will optimize manufacturing speed and precision. Research and development labs will also be integrated into the campus, giving Verdun the capacity to design and test next-generation products, from smart-home enabled window systems to advanced glazing technologies.
Sustainability features are built into the site from day one. Rooftop solar arrays, energy-efficient LED lighting with smart controls, EV charging stations, and water-recycling systems will help reduce operational impact. Verdun is also pursuing a zero-waste-to-landfill initiative as part of its broader environmental pledge.
Creating Careers That Last
The Vars expansion is expected to generate 150 to 200 permanent jobs across manufacturing, engineering, logistics, and administration. Verdun has already partnered with local colleges to establish training and apprenticeship programs, ensuring workers enter the facility with the skills to thrive in high-tech manufacturing roles.
To connect directly with potential employees, Verdun will host a large-scale community job fair in summer 2025. Attendees will tour the construction site, meet hiring managers, and learn about career opportunities that range from machine operation and quality control to research and innovation.
“Verdun is building more than products—we’re building futures,” said company leadership. “By investing in people from our community, we create opportunities that will last for generations.”
Strengthening Supply Chain Resilience
The COVID-19 pandemic exposed vulnerabilities in global supply chains, particularly in the construction and home improvement industries. Verdun’s Vars campus is designed to reduce these risks by bringing sourcing and production closer to home.
From glass suppliers to packaging firms and industrial servicing, Verdun is expanding partnerships with Eastern Ontario businesses, reducing both lead times and shipping emissions. This shift ensures a more reliable flow of materials and strengthens the region’s economic base.
“Every window we build here keeps more jobs, more investment, and more resilience in our region,” noted Verdun’s procurement team.
Community and Government Backing
The groundbreaking ceremony drew significant support from local leaders and elected officials. Russell Township Mayor Mike Tarnowski described Verdun’s investment as “a turning point for our municipality—bringing jobs, sustainable growth, and long-term prosperity to our community.”
MPP Stéphane Sarrazin and MP Giovanna Mingarelli echoed that message, highlighting the role of government in supporting advanced manufacturing. Verdun’s Vars project has already secured $1 million in funding from Federal Economic Development Canada (FedDev Ontario), with additional provincial grants anticipated as construction progresses.
Award-Winning Innovation
Verdun’s growth in Vars comes on the heels of multiple national recognitions. The company’s RevoCell™ technology has twice been honored by ENERGY STAR® Canada, and in 2025 Verdun also received the HomeStars Best of the Best Award. These distinctions reflect not only product performance but also Verdun’s dedication to customer service and long-term reliability.
“Recognition is gratifying, but it’s not the end goal,” said Verdun leadership. “What matters most is delivering products that homeowners can trust—built right here in Ottawa.”
Setting a New Standard for Customer Experience
One of Verdun’s key differentiators is its vertically integrated model. By managing every step of the process—from design and manufacturing to installation and service—the company ensures homeowners receive faster turnaround times, accurate installations, and dependable after-sales support.
Verdun’s dedicated installation teams have built a reputation for professionalism, punctuality, and attention to detail, further strengthening the company’s customer-first culture. The Vars facility will enhance that model by giving Verdun more flexibility to meet demand spikes without compromising quality.
Looking Ahead
The Vars campus is not just about expanding capacity; it is a blueprint for the future of sustainable home manufacturing in Canada. Verdun plans to pursue LEED certification, expand into steel and fiberglass doors, and electrify its delivery fleet. The company is also exploring environmental partnerships, including tree-planting initiatives tied to each window sold.
With innovation, sustainability, and community impact at its foundation, Verdun’s Vars facility marks the beginning of a new chapter.
