Driver dead after plow truck crash on Highway 595

THUNDER BAY — Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision on Highway 595 after a plow truck left one person dead Wednesday afternoon.
For Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario, the crash is another reminder of the risks facing drivers and road crews on northern highways, where changing conditions, heavy equipment and long travel distances can complicate emergency response and investigation.

Fatal collision happened Wednesday afternoon

Thunder Bay OPP said officers, firefighters and Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene shortly before 1 p.m. on March 25, 2026.

Police said the collision involved a single plow truck on Highway 595. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

OPP have not yet released the identity of the deceased.

Specialized OPP units assisting

The investigation is continuing with assistance from the OPP North West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team, along with OPP collision reconstructionists.

Those specialized units are typically called in to help determine the sequence of events in serious crashes, including vehicle movement, road conditions and other contributing factors.

Highway has reopened

Police said Highway 595 has reopened following the collision investigation at the scene.
No further details on the cause of the crash have been released.
