KENORA – A snowy start is setting the tone for Wednesday across Kenora, where light snow and reduced visibility are in place this morning. Environment Canada shows no alerts in effect for the Kenora–Grassy Narrows–Whitedog area, but the day still brings fresh snow, a brief rise above freezing, and a colder snap returning by Thursday.

This year, spring seems to be waiting for Old Man Winter to fade away rather than coming in like a lion and melting the snow and ice. It can feel frustrating but believe it or not warmer weather is on the way.

Today’s Weather Overview

Current Conditions

At 7:18 AM CDT at Kenora Airport, conditions were reported as light snow with a temperature of -2.5°C, rounded to -3°C on the forecast page. Humidity was 97 percent, pressure was 101.1 kPa and falling, and a north-northeast wind at 10 km/h produced a wind chill of -6. Visibility was reduced to 3 km in the snow.

Environment Canada’s forecast calls for periods of snow ending near noon, then cloudy skies with a 40 percent chance of flurries this afternoon. Snowfall during the day is expected to total about 2 cm, with a high near +1°C and winds staying fairly light at up to 15 km/h.

Wardrobe Recommendations

This is still winter-coat weather in Kenora. A warm jacket, gloves, and a hat make sense this morning, especially with snow falling and visibility reduced. Waterproof boots are a good idea through tonight, and by Thursday the colder north wind will make heavier layers the better choice again.

Weather Trivia

Environment Canada lists Kenora’s normals for this point in March at 3°C for the daytime high and -7°C for the overnight low. That means Wednesday’s +1°C is a little below seasonal, while Thursday’s -6°C high is a definite step back into colder-than-normal territory. Kenora also now has about 12 and a half hours of daylight, with sunrise at 7:10 AM CDT and sunset at 7:38 PM CDT.
