Thunder Bay – Weather Desk – A wintry stretch continues across far northern Ontario this weekend. While it is the first day of Spring on Friday it still feels like Old Man Winter is not all that willing to depart.

Friday brings light snow or flurries to several communities, Saturday stays cold with more cloud and spotty snow, and Sunday trends brighter for most areas, although temperatures remain firmly below freezing from the northwest interior to the James Bay coast.

Marten Falls / Ogoki

For Marten Falls and Ogoki, Friday sees light snow ending in the morning, then some clearing, with a high near -3°C. Friday night turns partly cloudy, then cloudier late with a 60 percent chance of light snow and a low of -14°C. Saturday stays cloudy with a 60 percent chance of light snow in the morning, periods of light snow by noon, north winds building to 30 km/h, and a high of -5°C. Sunday brings a mix of sun and cloud with a high near -5°C.

Wardrobe and Travel Outlook

This is still full winter-gear weather across the north. Heavy coats, insulated boots, gloves, and hats are the right choice, and travel may slow at times Friday into Saturday where light snow, flurries, and stronger north winds develop. The coldest overnight conditions are expected in Attawapiskat, Sachigo Lake, and Kitchenuhmaykoosib, where lows fall well below -15°C.
