James Bay OPP Say Alcohol Was a Factor During Saturday Afternoon Call

MOOSONEE — A Moose Factory resident is facing impaired-driving charges after Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a vehicle stuck on the winter ice road between Moosonee and Moose Factory.

James Bay OPP say officers were called at about 4:20 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, to investigate concerns about a suspected impaired driver after the vehicle became lodged in a snowbank on the ice road.

Police say they spoke with the driver at the scene and determined alcohol was a factor. The driver was arrested and taken to the Moosonee OPP detachment for further testing.

Charges Laid

As a result of the investigation, Bernard Trapper, 55, of Moose Factory, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol

The allegations have not been proven in court.

Court Date and Licence Suspension

OPP say Trapper was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice on May 5, 2026, in Moosonee.

Police also report the driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS).

OPP Reminder to Report Impaired Driving

Police are again urging the public to call 9-1-1 immediately if they suspect someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
