Snow Removal Update: Crews Continue Citywide Cleanup After Heavy Accumulations

Thunder Bay snow removal continues Tuesday after another 10 cm; priority routes and sidewalks underway

Another 10 cm Falls as Plowing and Sidewalk Clearing Continue

THUNDER BAY — The City says snowfall has ended after adding another 10 centimetres on top of earlier accumulations, and road and sidewalk crews remain actively engaged in snow-clearing operations across Thunder Bay.

With the significant total snowfall, the City notes work is continuing but at a slower pace, with some areas requiring the use of snowblower equipment, which adds time to operations.

Priority Routes Plowed Overnight, Re-Plowing Begins Early Wednesday

Road crews began clearing priority routes — including arterial roads, collector streets, and transit corridors — at 3:00 a.m. Tuesday and will continue cleanup work through the day.

The City says these priority routes will require re-plowing beginning at 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, with completion anticipated by 8:00 a.m.

Residential Street Plowing Starts Wednesday

Plowing of residential streets is expected to begin after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday and will continue through Friday, depending on conditions and progress.

Sidewalk Clearing Underway; Residential Routes to Follow

Sidewalk clearing on arterial, collector, and core-area streets began at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday and will continue throughout the day.

Crews will resume work on priority routes at 3:00 a.m. Wednesday, continuing from where they left off. Once priority sidewalks are complete, crews will move into residential sidewalks and trails, which the City says will take several days due to the volume of snow.

Sanding and Salting Ongoing

Sanding and salting will continue on priority routes to maintain safe travel conditions. The City says once priority routes are complete, crews will begin sanding residential streets.
