Smoke Alarms Alert Occupants, Everyone Evacuates Safely
Thunder Bay — Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews responded to a report of a residential structure fire in the 3000 block of Oriole Place at approximately 3:45 a.m. on January 30, 2026.
Fire officials say occupants were alerted by smoke alarms and had safely evacuated prior to firefighters arriving.
Heavy Smoke and Flames Seen From Rear of Home
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the residence. Crews quickly began suppression efforts both inside and outside the structure to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading.
The blaze was declared under control around 4:30 a.m. Crews remained on scene afterward to monitor conditions.
No Injuries Reported; Cause Under Investigation
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue.
Fire Rescue Issues Safety Reminder
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue is reminding residents to ensure working smoke alarms are installed:

on every level of the home, and

outside all sleeping areas.
Residents are also encouraged to develop and regularly practice a home escape plan with everyone in the household.
