One person taken to hospital as precaution; no firefighters hurt as crews stop flames from spreading

THUNDER BAY — December 17, 2025 — Thunder Bay Fire Rescue (TBFR) responded to a residential structure fire on Prince Arthur Boulevard Tuesday morning, bringing the blaze under control before it could spread further through the home.

TBFR received the alarm at approximately 8:10 a.m. Crews arriving on scene reported smoke coming from second-storey windows, prompting a second alarm to call in additional resources to support suppression operations.

The first pumper crew entered the home and advanced to the second floor to begin an interior attack. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire, containing it and preventing additional extension. The residence sustained extensive fire, smoke, and water damage.

Firefighters conducted primary and secondary searches and confirmed no occupants were inside at the time of the fire. One civilian was transported to hospital as a precaution due to smoke inhalation. No firefighter injuries were reported.

A total of six pumper trucks, one aerial ladder truck, and one command unit responded.

TBFR is reminding residents that working smoke alarms save lives, that people should never re-enter a building involved in a fire, and that every household should have a practiced home fire escape plan.
