FireSmart: Reduce Risk at Home & Camp

Wildland fires can threaten neighbourhoods along the wildland–urban interface. FireSmart actions make a difference:

  • Create a non-combustible zone (0–1.5 m) around buildings.

  • Move firewood/propane away from structures.

  • Clear leaves/needles from roofs, gutters, and decks.

  • Prune lower branches; thin dense vegetation near buildings.

Outdoor Burning — Know the Rules

AFFES urges residents to avoid burning yard waste; use composting or local landfill where possible. If you must burn:

  • Ignite no sooner than 2 hours before sunset; extinguish no later than 2 hours after sunrise.

  • Keep water and tools on site to control the fire.

  • Follow all local Outdoor Burning Regulations.
