OPP and Anishinabek Police confirm no active threat; investigation continues after fatal shooting

GINOOGAMING FIRST NATION – REGIONAL CRIME UPDATE (Oct. 9, 2025) – Following a two-day police response, the shelter-in-place advisory has been lifted for Ginoogaming First Nation. Residents may resume normal activities, but are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.

Police say a thorough response and community-wide search have stabilized the situation, and the threat to public safety is no longer considered active. Officers will maintain an increased presence in the area as the investigation proceeds.

What Prompted the Advisory

A shelter-in-place and emergency alert were issued on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, after reports of shots fired in the community. Officers subsequently located one person deceased and another person injured.

Investigation Ongoing

The case remains under active investigation by the OPP North West Region Crime Unit in partnership with the Anishinabek Police Service, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB). Police will continue canvassing, evidence collection, and targeted patrols.
