OPP urges residents to stay indoors as officers respond to active threat involving two armed individuals

GREENSTONE – PUBLIC SAFETY – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) – Greenstone Detachment has issued a shelter-in-place advisory for residents of Ginoogaming First Nation amid an ongoing armed incident involving two individuals.

As of Tuesday evening, OPP officers are actively responding to the situation. Members of the public in the affected area are urged to stay indoors and secure all doors and windows.

If you are outside, seek immediate shelter in a safe location.
If you are driving, continue directly to your destination and avoid stopping in the area.

An increased police presence is expected in and around Ginoogaming First Nation as the OPP works to resolve the situation safely.

Safety First

Residents are reminded to follow these precautions until the advisory is lifted:

  • Stay inside and lock all doors and windows.

  • Avoid the area entirely — do not attempt to approach or observe police operations.

  • Monitor official OPP channels and NetNewsLedger for updates.

“We understand how distressing this situation may be for the community,” the OPP said in a statement. “Every precaution is being taken to ensure public safety while officers work to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.”

At this time, there have been no confirmed injuries. The OPP has not released further details about the suspects or circumstances, but updates will be shared as soon as more information becomes available.
