EDMONTON – SPORTS – Start the clock and dust off the chaps—CFR 51 is back in Edmonton, and the arena is rocking. From bull riding to barrel racing, Canada’s elite are here to rope, ride, and flat-out fly for national championships and brand-new buckles.

The field: stars, stock, and serious stakes

  • 120 athletes hit the chutes across Rough Stock and Timed events: bull riding, saddle bronc, bareback, steer wrestling, barrel racing and more.

  • Expect eight jam-packed competitions where hundredths of a second and half points decide legends.

The house: sold-out roar, western pride

Rogers Place is set to draw 45,000+ over Oct. 1–4—a barnburner crowd that lives for eight-second rides and fast cloverleafs. Alberta’s been the CFR’s home turf for 50+ years, and it shows—western spirit on full display, from the dirt to the concourse.

The boost: big bucks beyond the buckles

Alberta’s government is backing the show with $1.5M this year—part of a $4.5M, three-year commitment to keep the CFR in Edmonton (2024–2026).
Last year’s CFR50? 42,000 spectators and $32M in local economic punch. This week, the scoreboard says: 5,500+ jobs supported and 12,000+ hotel room nights in play. That’s a win for athletes, fans, and the city.

“Alberta is, and will always be, rodeo country!” — Andrew Boitchenko, Minister of Tourism & Sport

“CFR connects urban and rural Alberta through sport, culture and pride.” — RJ Sigurdson, Minister of Agriculture & Irrigation

Where to catch the action

The Canadian Country Expo brings the tunes, local venues add the eats, and Rogers Place brings the heat. From opening horn to the final victory lap, it’s wall-to-wall rodeo—don’t blink.

Thunder Bay angle

Plenty of Northwestern Ontario fans make the trek west—and our own junior and high school rodeo hopefuls will be tuned in, taking notes on stock control, horsemanship, and split-second strategy. Book it: CFR highlights will be must-watch film for regional clubs all fall.

Final call

Eight events. Four nights. One national stage. Mount up, Canada—the CFR is rolling and the dirt is flying.
