THUNDER BAY – POLITICS – On September 30th, the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association (NOMA) pauses to recognize the survivors of residential schools, pay them honour, and stand in solidarity with Indigenous families and communities across our region and Canada. We also remember the children who never made it home.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Final Report and its 94 Calls to Action. While progress has been made, much work remains to ensure that the Commission’s vision for justice, healing, and reconciliation is fully realized.
Truth and Reconciliation is not a single day—it is an ongoing journey that requires honesty, humility, and commitment. Today, and every day, NOMA reaffirms our responsibility to listen, learn, and act.
We encourage our member municipalities, leaders, and residents to take this opportunity to engage in reflection, attend community events, and commit to meaningful reconciliation in their own lives and organizations.
As we move forward together, NOMA remains committed to building strong partnerships with Indigenous communities, advancing shared priorities, and supporting a future grounded in respect, equity, and healing.
