Sudbury – WILDFIRE UPDATE — As of 5:50 p.m. EDT on September 17, 2025, Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFFES) reports no new wildland fires in the Northeast Fire Region.

There is one active fire in the region and it is under control.

Fire Hazard Outlook

The wildland fire hazard is moderate to high from Englehart southward. The rest of the region is holding low to moderate hazard conditions. For the latest conditions in your community, check Ontario’s Interactive Fire Map.

FireSmart: Small Steps That Make a Big Difference

If you live near forested areas, reduce risk by:

  • Clearing leaves/needles from roofs, gutters, and decks

  • Moving firewood 10+ metres from structures

  • Keeping grass trimmed and removing brush around buildings

  • Storing fuel and propane safely; keep vents and under-deck areas screened

If you must burn yard waste or woody debris:

  • Ignite no sooner than two hours before sunset; extinguish within two hours after sunrise

  • Keep ample water and tools on site

  • Consider composting or local landfill disposal instead
