Clear Skies, Rising Temps, and a Chance of Showers on the Horizon

TORONTO – WEATHER – Mother Nature seems to have hit snooze on autumn in the GTA. While it may feel like sweater season when you head out this morning, by midday you’ll be thinking about iced lattes and patio seating. Toronto is serving up another sun-soaked, summer-style day, with even warmer weather coming on Thursday—and yes, maybe a sneaky afternoon shower to keep us on our toes.

Wednesday Morning: Cool Start, Hot Finish

As of 7:00 AM EDT, skies over Toronto Pearson International Airport are mainly sunny, and the temperature is a crisp 13.9°C. With the dew point at 10.6°C and humidity at 81%, it’s fresh and slightly damp—the kind of morning that’s perfect for a walk or jog before the heat kicks in. Winds are light from the north-northwest at 10 km/h, and visibility is a clear 24 km. The barometric pressure is at 102.1 kPa but falling, a hint that change is coming (but not just yet).

This afternoon, Toronto will warm up to a delightful high of 25°C, and with the humidex at 29, it’ll feel like we’re back in the dog days of summer. The UV index is high at 6, so sunscreen is a must if you’re spending time outside—even if it feels like you’re cheating the season.

Tonight: Clear and Calm

Tonight remains clear, with the temperature dipping only to 14°C—a comfortable night for open windows or evening strolls. Not bad for mid-September!

Thursday: Hottest Day of the Week?

Thursday, September 18, kicks off with sunshine, but clouds will start to build later in the day. There’s a 30% chance of showers in the afternoon, though it won’t be a washout. Before that happens, though, we’ll hit a high of 27°C, and the humidex will soar to 32°C—definitely T-shirt weather, possibly tank-top territory. The UV index remains high at 6, so don’t forget the SPF.

Thursday night will bring cloudy periods and a mild low of 14°C.

Friday and Beyond: Cooling Trend Kicks In

Friday, September 19, brings a mix of sun and cloud and a drop in temperature, with a more seasonable high of 22°C. Friday night cools significantly to 9°C, giving us a little taste of the fall air that’s been waiting in the wings.

Saturday, September 20, stays partly cloudy, with a daytime high of 19°C—cooler, but still pleasant. Saturday nightwill hover around 10°C, great for cozy sweaters, fireside chats, or your favourite fall beverage.

What to Wear?

Layers are your best friend—start with a light jacket in the morning and strip it off by lunch. Tomorrow might even call for shorts. Keep an umbrella nearby Thursday afternoon, and maybe dig out your fall wear by Friday night.

Weather Trivia: Toronto’s Humidex History

Did you know the Toronto humidex has hit above 30°C as late as late September? Thanks to warm air masses from the U.S. Midwest, combined with lingering Great Lakes moisture, the city can experience “faux summer” bursts that leave us all questioning whether to bring out the Halloween décor—or head to the beach one last time.
