THUNDER BAY – NORTHWEST FIRE REGION — September 15, 2025 | 17:30 CDT | NetNewsLedger Wildfire Reports — Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFFES) reports no new fires in the Northwest Region by this evening.

  • Active fires: 11 total

    • Under Control: 3

    • Being Observed: 8

Fire Hazard Overview

  • Eastern side: hazard mostly moderate, with low zones along the southern border from Quetico Provincial Park to Neebing, and another low pocket in the Far North near Webequie First Nation.

  • Western side: hazard predominantly high, including an extreme area along the Manitoba border around the north end of Woodland Caribou Provincial Park.

Outdoor Burning Regulations (Know Before You Burn)

If you must dispose of yard waste or woody debris (composting or local landfill preferred), follow Ontario’s rules:

  • Ignite no sooner than 2 hours before sunset

  • Extinguish no later than 2 hours after sunrise

  • Keep adequate tools and water on site
