MOOSE FACTORY, ON — Moose Cree First Nation is issuing a strong warning to individuals involved in the sale, manufacturing, or harbouring of illegal drugs within the community: your actions may result in eviction.

Under the direct guidance of the Moose Cree First Nation membership, Chief & Council have enacted and are actively enforcing a Band Council Resolution (BCR) that empowers the community to remove individuals from homes if they are engaged in drug-related criminal activity. This move is part of a larger effort to protect the safety and well-being of residents and restore peace in Moose Cree territory.

To date, the Moose Cree Drug Task Force, working alongside other supporting agencies, has executed twenty evictions and home repossessions linked to drug trafficking. These actions reflect a growing resolve among leadership and residents to reclaim their community from the harms caused by the drug trade.

“We are sending a clear message: illegal drug activity will not be tolerated in our homes or on our land,” stated a spokesperson for the Council. “We are committed to using every tool available to protect our people and future generations.”

This enforcement strategy is a community-driven response rooted in safety, accountability, and cultural preservation. As drug trafficking and addiction continue to devastate many Indigenous communities across Northern Ontario, the Moose Cree First Nation’s proactive measures serve as a potential model for others seeking to take back control from illicit drug networks.

For communities like Thunder Bay, where drug-related harms and housing insecurity remain persistent issues, the Moose Cree approach underscores the impact of decisive, community-led action. Their message is clear: protecting the community comes first.
